How it works
From the car to the window, on the hardware you own.
Four steps, fully automated. The AI never leaves the lane it was dropped into.
01
The car pulls up
A vehicle detector triggers the greeting. The AI welcomes the guest at the speaker post, in their language, no wait.
02
The AI takes the order
It understands accents, slang and mid-order changes, reads the order back to confirm, catches missed mods and upsells naturally.
03
POS and kitchen, in real time
The confirmed order writes to your POS and prints to the KDS the instant it locks. No re-keying, no transcription errors.
04
Pay and collect at the window
The total syncs to the payment terminal. The guest pays, collects and drives off while the next car is already being greeted.
The retrofit kit
One layer between your lane and your POS.
The AI order-taking layer sits on top of the hardware and systems you already run. Guest audio comes in through your speaker; validated orders go out to your POS, KDS and confirmation screen. Crew takes over only when it needs to.
Speaker posts and headsets
Sits between your existing speaker post and order-taker headset. No new wiring, no permits, no closed lanes during install.
Drive-thru timers
Reads service-time signals so the AI knows when to greet, when to confirm, and when to push the next car. We listen to your timer, we do not replace it.
Digital menu boards
Pushes AI-aware promotions to your boards. Inventory-aware, so an 86'd item drops off the board the moment the kitchen flips it.
Vehicle detection
Integrates with loop detectors and camera systems to trigger the greeting at the right moment and benchmark lane throughput.
Payment terminals
Totals sync to the window terminal the moment the order is confirmed. Optional pre-pay at the speaker by mobile wallet for the fastest lanes.
Greenfield builds
Opening new locations? We ship a reference hardware spec validated against the speaker, headset, KDS, timer and network you need for a clean rollout.
POS systems
Kitchen display systems
Running something not listed? We integrate by REST, webhook or middleware bridge. Naming a POS on the discovery call is enough to scope it.

Human-in-the-loop, as an observer
One agent watches the lanes. The AI runs them.
A remote supervisor monitors eight to twelve lanes at once and steps in only when confidence drops, without breaking the flow of the conversation. Presence when you want it, absence when you do not.
- One agent supervises 8 to 12 lanes in parallel
- Confidence-gated intervention, not babysitting
- Take, whisper, or hand the lane back in one tap

Complete menu control
Change a price once. It lands everywhere.
Manage the full menu from one interface that reads live from your POS. 86 an item in the kitchen and it drops off the board and the AI at the same moment.
- Live sync from your POS, no double entry
- One-tap 86-state across the board and the AI
- Dayparted promotions the AI actually says

What a real order sounds like
It keeps the cart honest, even at peak.
Mid-order changes, combo upgrades, mods. The AI catches contradictions, refuses to fire an unresolved allergen flag, and reads the cart back before it locks.
The same flow runs in Arabic, Hindi, Tamil or Spanish. The AI auto-detects the language the guest opens with and stays in it for the rest of the cart.
Welcome to HeyKoala QSR. What can I get started for you?
Yeah hi, can I get a large no-ice Coke, two double cheeseburgers, one no onion, and a small fries.
Got it. One large Coke, no ice. Two double cheeseburgers, the second with no onion. And one small fries. Anything to make those two double cheeseburgers a meal?
Yeah make the first one a meal, medium, with a Sprite. Wait, the second one too. Same drink.
Two double cheeseburger meals, both medium, both with Sprite. Plus one large Coke, no ice, and one small fries on the side. Did I get that right?
Yeah perfect.
That is $24.80. Please pull forward to the second window.
Operating modes
Three ways to run the AI on the lane.
Fully autonomous, supervised or AI-assisted. Switch by daypart, by store or by menu.
Fully autonomous
The AI takes every order without a human listening. Crew is freed to expedite, run windows and prep food. Recommended above 97% accuracy on your menu.
Best for
Quick-serve, simple menus, off-peak hours
Supervised
The AI takes the order; a remote agent monitors the lane and intervenes only when confidence drops below threshold. One agent covers 8 to 12 lanes.
Best for
Complex menus, premium QSR, peak hours
AI-assisted
Crew takes the order on the headset. The AI listens, prompts upsells, flags missed mods and writes the order to the POS. Crew approves and fires.
Best for
Brands that want the human voice with AI guard-rails
Two ways in
Retrofit a chain. Or roll out new lanes.
One product, two deployment paths. Pick the one that fits where you are.
Path A · Retrofit a chain
Drop AI into the drive-thrus you already operate.
Your hardware was installed years ago and your POS is Oracle MICROS, Toast or similar. We slot in between, without touching the hardware on the wall or the menu in the POS.
- Pilot one store in 14 days, fleet rollout in waves
- No closed lanes, no permits, no capex spike
- AI runs in shadow first, then takes the lane on your schedule
- Per-store dashboards, benchmarked against the lane next door
Path B · Greenfield rollout
Open new lanes with voice AI from day one.
Building new stores or a new format? We ship a reference hardware spec, a recommended POS and KDS configuration, and one rollout team that delivers the AI alongside the build.
- Validated reference BOM for speaker, headset, KDS, timer, network
- Brand voice persona pre-trained before the lane opens
- Multilingual configured to the geography on day one
- Lane-throughput targets baked into the launch plan
The numbers we hold ourselves to
Measured on production stores.
What it adds up to
The drive-thru is your highest-margin channel.
Here is what the AI moves once it is live, benchmarked against the crew-run lane next door during your pilot.

Frequently asked questions
Asked before they sign.
Can HeyKoala drive-thru AI work with my existing drive-thru speaker post and headset?
Yes. HeyKoala is hardware-agnostic by design. We slot in between your existing speaker post or headset and your POS, working with the major drive-thru hardware systems already deployed in QSR lanes. There is no rip-and-replace, no new wiring in the lane, no construction permits. The hardware your franchisees already own stays exactly where it is.
Which POS systems does HeyKoala drive-thru AI integrate with?
Oracle MICROS Simphony, Toast, Square for Restaurants, Qu, HungerRush, Revel, Restroworks, PetPooja, Rista and HyperPOS, with API-based integration for any system that exposes a public API or webhook. Orders flow from the AI directly to the POS and KDS in real time, with mods highlighted and combos exploded into line items.
Is drive-thru AI bilingual or genuinely multilingual?
Genuinely multilingual. Twenty-six languages are supported with accent handling, including English (US, UK, Indian, Filipino, Arab-English), Spanish, Arabic (MSA and GCC dialects), Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Malayalam, Bengali, Marathi, Gujarati, Punjabi, Urdu, French, German, Portuguese, Mandarin, Japanese, Korean, Russian, Turkish, Indonesian, Vietnamese, Thai and Filipino. The AI auto-detects the language a guest opens with and switches mid-order without missing the cart.
How accurate is HeyKoala drive-thru AI?
99.5% order accuracy at peak hour on production menus, measured against the line-item-level POS record. 95%+ of orders complete without escalation to a human supervisor. The AI reads every order back before firing to the kitchen, catches contradictions like 'no cheese' on a combo that includes cheese, and refuses to fire an order with an unresolved allergen flag.
Can drive-thru AI handle tandem and dual-lane drive-thrus?
Yes. HeyKoala supports tandem lanes, dual lanes and side-by-side configurations natively. The AI tracks each car through the lane via the timer or detection sensor and routes the correct order to the correct window, even when the lanes merge before payment.
Do we need to replace our drive-thru hardware to use HeyKoala?
No. The retrofit path is the default. HeyKoala is designed to drop into a chain that already runs standard drive-thru hardware with Oracle MICROS, Toast or similar POS estates. The greenfield path is available for new builds and ships with a reference BOM, but it is a choice, not a requirement.
How long does deployment take for a 100-store QSR chain?
A single pilot store goes live in 14 days. Once the pilot crosses your accuracy and AOV gates, the fleet rolls in waves of five to ten stores per week with a dedicated pod. A 100-store chain typically reaches full coverage in 12 to 16 weeks. Multi-thousand-store enterprise rollouts use parallel pods and run nine to twelve months end to end.
Can the AI run fully autonomously, or do we always need a human in the loop?
Both modes are supported. Fully autonomous is recommended for simple menus, off-peak hours and stores with sustained accuracy above 97%. Supervised mode pairs the AI with a remote agent who monitors eight to twelve lanes in parallel and intervenes only when confidence drops. AI-assisted mode keeps the human crew on the headset and uses the AI to prompt upsells, flag missed mods, and write the order to the POS automatically.
How does HeyKoala handle background and engine noise at the speaker?
The acoustic model is trained on real lane audio with engine idle, road traffic, weather and music bleed. Active noise suppression runs on the inbound stream before the AI hears the guest, and a confidence-weighted second pass catches the difficult phrases. The AI asks the guest to repeat instead of guessing when confidence drops.
Does HeyKoala train on our menu and our brand voice?
Yes. Every chain gets a brand-locked persona, a voice trained for your tone, and a full menu mapping including combos, mods and 86-state. The menu mapping reads live from your POS so price changes and item availability flow automatically. The voice persona is yours alone; we do not share it across brands.
See it take a real order on a live lane.
Twenty minutes. Your menu, your accents, your hardware. We run a complex order with mods, mid-order changes and a language switch, and show you the cart in your POS schema.
Per-lane, no hidden hardware markup.
One store live in 14 days.
Scale store-by-store, per-site terms.
Regional pods, not a single time zone.
